Actually I spent $800 about four months ago, but then I built to much hotter specs than that. 23" flatscreen, 3 ghz Quad-Core AMD, 8 gig ram, 2x1.5tb drives (I had a spare 320 gig, so it's in there as / and /home, plus swap; there's room in the case and on the mobo for 4 more big drives when I want them), dual CD/DVD (one will probably be a BluRay writer at some point), midtower case with enough fans to guarantee that Houston summers in an unairconditioned apartment don't get the core temp over 40C. (working at 90+ degree ambient makes the all-in-one design a bad idea no matter WHO built it.) The millions of gamers constantly building hotter-than-thou PC's means that VERY high-end stuff is available at seriously cheap prices if you know where to shop. And all of the software is free. The only downside I've found is that the 16-bit implementation in GIMP isn't quite up to snuff yet... -- R.
