It seems like the answer is... often, but then bigger cards are often made with newer, faster technology, in which case not. And there was that sudden slowdown at the transition from 2GB-and-below cards to above-2GB cards, because the larger cards needed to use a different, slower MS-DOS filesystem type in order to be able to address all that space. But cards as small as 2GB are so last week. Really, one should check actual benchmarks of actual card/camera systems, such as the thorough old standby Rob Galbraith one. http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=6007 No Leica benchmarks, so you have to guess what might be comparable.
