That's exactly what I do.  The tiny Seagate external hard drives are 
smaller than a pack of cards and hold 350GB.  You can find them on 
sale pretty cheap.  I got Lime Green ones because they were 
cheaper!  I use 4, 8, and 16 GB cards.  I only have 2 16 GB cards.  I 
would hesitate to get any bigger cards.  The 16 GB take quite awhile 
to reformat on the M9.
