Many (most?) components of complex pieces equipment are physically manufactured by someone other than the brand owner of the final product. Chips are made by chipmakers. Glass is made by glass makers. Sensors are made by sensor makers. Apple makes the iPhone - except it does not manufacture it. These days, "Made by" means specified by, and responsible for quality. If Leica takes responsibility for the specs and the quality, it is made by Leica, no matter who physically touches the product. If Leica actually manufactured and assembled every component of the M9 it would likely cost 10x more and not work very well. -- Clive Photographs: http://clive.smugmug.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/clive.moss Blog: http://clive.moss.net/blog On Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 10:49 AM, <grduprey at mchsi.com> wrote: > > > Richard, > > > You are absolutely right, however, the Leica rumor mongers will use > anything they can to perpetuate this kind of misinformation or doubt. > Maybe > Nikon makes Sony cameras. ;-) > > >
