The M8 cuts off the worst part, but the lens is still a compromise design. Sometimes this is "character," and sometimes its just plain soft. I have a relatively clean and good sample. I would probably sell it if I find a decent deal on a Konica 50/1.2 or the new Nokton 50/1.1, or if I ever score a Noctilux at a garage sale... Meanwhile, I have it, and it's fast. That said, a little local contrast enhancement or selective sharpening makes things right. Focusing is tricky, to help this, the focus ring has a long throw like the Noctilux. It's probably best to "rough" set the focus ring, then sway your body to fine-tune the focus. Here's a decent one, wide open, with the local contrast boosted a bit. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/pklein/family/PetersBday2007/L1002325-w.jpg.html And a few more, wide open: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/pklein/album170/L1002263KatyaRead50-1_2-w.jpg.html http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/pklein/album170/L1002212KatyaKitchen50-1_2-w.jpg.html http://users.2alpha.com/~pklein/musicians/L1002312HokansonChord-w.html http://users.2alpha.com/~pklein/musicians/L1002314HokansonBow-W.html Stopped down, it's quite decent, just a little local highlight bleed and veiling flare. This is a drastic crop, about 50% magnification (1:2)--I had just come out of a dark pub, and spotted this across the street, no time to change lenses, so I just shot. f/11, I think: http://users.2alpha.com/~pklein/currentpics/Spyglass-w.html A lens hood is a must. I got a cheap 55mm screw-in. Hope this helps! --Peter lrzeitlin at aol.com (lrzeitlin at aol.com) >Has anyone tried the Canon f1.2 50mm lens on an M8 or a micro 3/4 camera? I have a pristine Canon lens with a Leica screw >mount that I used with an adaptor on an M3 years ago. Wide open the lens was soft but OK for available light work except >that the corners of the image were fuzzy. It seems that if only the central portion of image circle is used, the lens might be good >for interior work. Unfortunately I have no suitable digital camera to try it out.
