The first of these is a Least Sandpiper, a tiny perpetual-motion creature photographed at the Yolo Basin wildlife area west of Sacramento: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/scolopacidae/lesa01.jpg I visited the San Francisco bay yesterday morning, timing the trip to coincide with high tide (birds close to shore) at sunrise (low light angle). A Black-bellied Plover in winter plumage: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/charadriidae/bbpl01.jpg and this is a name-that-bird quiz: http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/scolopacidae/lbcu01.jpg hint: it's not a Short-billed Curlew. All photos: R8/DMR, 560mm f/6.8 Telyt, shoulder stock & monopod. All comments welcome.
