Yes, there is "the capability to do it", versus "the will to do it". 

 

I look at the transition of the Nikon F removable back to the Nikon F2 swing 
back.  Yeah, light years ahead in convenience.

 

Leica can easily chose to make a camera with a very different form factor, 
to use its lenses.   But they don't.  And for that, I am glad.

 

I can't fathom the reason for keeping that removable base plate.  Annoys the 
daylights out of me, and the engineering reasons don't hold any more (i.e. 
it was for a more rigid film register and body frame, in the M camera).  
But, it is an M-factor Leica, and the M-Leica DNA has a removable bottom.  

 

I only wish they would restore the Leica logo, and engraving on the top 
deck.  It looks absolutely naked without it.  

 

....you all are getting me to think about how to scrape the dollars together 
for an M9, and I said I'd never be an early adopter....  

 

.... let's see - I'd have to sell my Alpa collection.....
