The out of focus rendering of this lens may not be to everybody's taste, but then the same can be said for the Noctilux. The Summilux does have a lovely look, but as you say, with the Nokton, I can get half away with half the light and it's half the price of a new Summilux. Personally, I quite like the rendering at f1.1 (I have always likes the Noctilux too, but it's way out of my price range, new or used). Best wishes Mark Bob Adler wrote: > Hi Mark, > To be honest, I find the out of focus backgrounds at f1.1 to be very harsh > to the point of disruptive to the focused area of the image. > This image has a bright specular background such as your first image and > IMO isn't as harsh: > http://raflexions.com/2009Seder/content/L1000749_large.html > Sumilux at 1,4. > Of course, you're lucky enough to get half again the light I can! > Best, > Bob > Bob Adler > Palo Alto, CA > http://www.raflexions.com > > > > > ________________________________ > From: Mark Pope <mark at whitedogs.co.uk> > To: Leica Users Group <lug at leica-users.org>; CVUG <cvug at > cameraquest.org> > Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2009 1:11:13 PM > Subject: [Leica] Mark's first Nokton f1.1 shots... > > Following my acquisition of this gem of a lens, I managed to use it for > the first time last Sunday at the Fairford Steam Rally. > I actually managed to get over my normal reticence when photographing > strangers and just kept plugging away with the lens. > I was quite pleased with my hit rate. > > The majority of the pictures were taken at f1.1, though I did stop the > lens down to see how it fared as a general-purpose lens.
