Yes but this one's a BIG compromise as far as I can tell.

Also as far as I can tell most pictures you see in newspapers and I'm sure
other media like magazines maybe some internet stuff are done by
photographers on tight deadlines who edit their takes on a laptop in a
closest starbucks or other such place with WI-FI and send it in with
Cyberduck or some FTP server sender.

As we are not barraged by really off looking pictures a laptop might be not
so terrible. I think most pictures we see on done on very tight deadlines.
But I'll get a separate screen. It will be my TV. As I don't have one. Its
been 3 years. I hear they've gone way down in price. Not too big a one.
