I happened to be driving by while the fleet was setting out and, later, getting a start. Most on the boats are kept on the beach, rigged on shore, and launched by dolly. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/rtaylor/PICKS/2009_boating_pad/300_4942.jpg.html or http://tinyurl.com/kq95rc Getting off the lee shore isn't always easy. It was blowing around 10 knots directly on the beach. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/rtaylor/PICKS/2009_boating_pad/300_4957.jpg.html or http://tinyurl.com/n7h35c At the gun (red flag on the race committee boat is halfway down). Those two boats to the left of the race committee boat are dead, dead, dead. If they are really sharp they might just crawl their way back to a mid-fleet position, but that is about all they can realistically hope for. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/rtaylor/PICKS/2009_boating_pad/300_4897.jpg.html or http://tinyurl.com/ng6dds And, about 30 seconds afterwards, the leaders make their way to windward. #35 probably won the start and is well positioned to defend against anyone behind her. http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/rtaylor/PICKS/2009_boating_pad/300_4902.jpg.html or http://tinyurl.com/n3kwh4 These were all taken from the beach. D300, etc. C&C enthusiastically received. Regards, Dick
