My guess is that it's trickle-down from the S2 project.  While working on 
the S2 sensor, Kodak developed a way to sandwich the IR filter between the 
sensor and the microlenses.  After passing through the (offset) microlenses 
the light at the edges of the picture area are more perpendicular to the 
sensor surface so the IR filter can be made more effective w/o cyan shift.
