Hey Richard--

The waves conceal the horizon line usually a dull, straight line of  
little use. It is further "confused" by the thin line of clouds about  
midframe. The sky and water are very close in color and tone. All this  
gives the boat the illusion of leaping off into nothingness.

The photo is not "missing out" at all. The things I mention are the  
reasons I like the picture--a bunch!
