This is probably the strangest place we went in Peru:

Maras is no where near the ocean, but there is a spring coming out of 
the mountain that is salt water.  For centuries, different families 
have owned the rights to mine the salt from the open pit pools where 
the salt water evaporates.  I took lots of photos ;-)
