I found my Sony DCR-TRV520 on the bay for $175.
It is of course NTSC; but I would imagine in Europe PAL versions must
be about.
It was the perfect answer for me to retrieve my Hi8 movies.
It acts as a player with screen to find the stuff I want
and feeds via firewire directly into iMovie at full resolution.
