When technology matches on relentlessly, we tend to think that technology or post processing can fix anything. The fact of the matter is that there are sweet spots; and moving away from the sweet spots mean more compromises. Thet 800mm (1200mm on the APS-C) seems to be a specialty lens in that sense. Handle with extreme care rather than spray-gunning it on a chewing moose.
