Can't imagine that's true.

I believe it's a Spanish word meaning: unmarried girl or woman (of  
any nationality)
as in
Fraulein
Miss
Mademoiselle

I believe that we use the term
on this list
with warm affection
and deference
to our friend
Lluis
who began the trend
