My first self-purchased car was a 1965 DS-19 following high school
graduation. I suppose that I was just fortunate but I had many years of
trouble-free service from it. I bought it used in 1969 from a man in my
small town who had purchased it new in France and toured Europe prior to
having it shipped home. This was a common practice during that era. He
replaced it with an Audi 100, purchased in the same manner. I also
bought that car some years later. These also were not famous for
reliability but again, I had a nice experience owning and driving that
car, too.

The Citroen was quite remarkable for their time as winter vehicles. The
small engine and relatively large interior took some time to become warm
and comfortable in my northern Wisconsin setting, but I had a small
auxiliary electric heater mounted that worked surprisingly fast to
pre-warm the interior. When the snow was especially deep, one simply
raised the ground clearance with a simple lever and the smooth,
belly-pan underside made for easy sledding!
