Over a 40-year career, his portfolio ran the gamut from street and crime photography to celebrity portraiture, and just about anything in between. For his photograph of the Chinese Delegation at the United Nations for the first time, he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Starting last Sunday and continuing through October 19th, a retrospective of his work, "Mel Finkelstein: Playing a Hunch" is being exhibited at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs, Florida, near St. Petersburg. The title comes from a quote of his: "The right spot at the right time. That's what this business is all about. Sometimes you stay in one spot and other times you play hunches and you would cruise." The following article appeared in the St. Petersburg Times last weekend: _http://www.tampabay.com/features/visualarts/article768397.ece_ (http://www.tampabay.com/features/visualarts/article768397.ece) The museum website is here: _http://www.spcollege.edu/central/museum/exhibitions.htm_ (http://www.spcollege.edu/central/museum/exhibitions.htm) If anyone is in the Tampa-St. Pete area over the next few months, you might want to pay a visit.
