A collection is a bucket.  You put stuff in it.

Use itunes?  Its a playlist.

Use a Mac?  Its a bunch of aliases in a folder for quick access.

You can have a collection of images from a trip, an event or a  
collection with related stuff.  Easy access, no duplication of files.
