Hi Phil,

A very interesting article indeed. I don't know about shooting the ground
hogs then eating them though. :-)

Where we live in Victoria BC Canada, our biggest garden critters are deer!!

Some years, certainly the past 3, if I were allowed to own a gun let alone
use it in my neighborhood. One shot would have the local police SWAT team
and weapons all pointed at me in a matter of minutes, if not seconds!

 

2 years ago I had spent the better part of the winter months preparing the
garden soil ready for a spring planting. I did a fine job of tomato plants,
corn, sun flowers and all kinds of pretty garden flowers were sprouting
vigorously. Each time I'd have a look it appeared we were going to have a
bountiful harvest of good veggies. Not to be! :-(

 

A beautiful morning, so out I go to check the garden, however, GARDEN? There
are 6 deer, a couple of fawn and several doe and a buck munching on the
remains of my caringly tended garden of 5 months or so.

If I had a gun I wouldn't have hesitated one second, I'd have shot them all
I was in such a rage! :-( Even a couple that looked like Bambi right out of
a Walt Disney movie! 

In one night they'd completely wiped out all the gardening tender loving
care! 

However all I could do was yell at them and throw clumps of earth at them
until they sauntered off like leaving a grocery store!

Last year it was a simlar grow and eat by deer ! This year? 

My wife bought piles of plastic made real looking super colourful flowers,
so  we're planting in the next couple of days when the rain stops. 

Screw the deer let them go eat at Macdonald's!!!!!!!!!!
