I like to read people's reasons and opinions on what they think works and what doesn't. Critiquing is challenging but educational (for me at least). Keep those picture posts and comments coming folks. -----Original Message----- Subject: RE: [Leica] One more attempt to convertpixie to greyscale Tough love from R. Clayton! That might be a bit harsh on Simon though ;-) Good to explore every avenue there. My preference is still for the colour. It's the soft warm skin tones in dappled light in the green nature surrounds. And huge gorgeous eyes, of course. This is still the most charming child's portrait that I have seen here for a long time. This last BW version does reduce the prominence of the oof foreground leaves, but for me the penalty is that the face is now rendered too dark (they are similar greys). In colour the leaves are more obviously leaves (visual cue for what is familiar) and add environment rather than distract. I think that the key for a successful BW rendition might be selective tonal adjustment in the conversion. I'll send Simon an example off-list and he can comment as he wishes.
