I bought a used Nikon 8000 and searched high and low for the GR8690
(I think) glass carrier.
Also, Phillipe wondered why the photos look very contrasty and this
is what I said:

Unfortunately it's probably not your monitor. It's a very sunny day,
as most of August in Japan. So the pictures are very contrasty. With
this particular one, also, the people are under the awning so they
are probably slightly underexposed. Fill flash is another option, but
I don't use that...
Another issue I notice is that when shrink down to web size, the Xpan
photos look even more contrasty. I am already using a
stepwise-shrinking photoshop action that works quite well with
non-XPan photos otherwise. Anyway, I re-did it with some dodging and
less sharpening. May be it helps just a little?
