I did have a long and at times heated discussion with someone on the Leica forum who kept telling everyone that scanning silver b&w negatives and getting decent results was impossible due to the type of light source. After a few dozen messages he admitted that his experience was based on a friend's unsuccessful scan of a single frame and that he'd never actually tried it himself. He was a very clever chap (and I mean that genuinely) but his approach was purely theoretical.
