Since our new house did not have a good place for a darkroom, I "outsourced" my film development to the premiere pro lab in Amsterdam, s-Color. At that time, they were open until midnight on weekdays and a bit less on weekends. I was very pleased with the quality of their work, and prices were reasonable. A year or so ago, they did away with weekend openings and started closing at 6 pm on weekdays. I continued to use them by mail: I would send them my films, they would send me back the negatives, and once a month an invoice. Today I received a letter from s-Color. The operative sentence reads: "as a consequence of developments in the market for analogue photography, the s-Color Group has decided to terminate its activities at the Singel 356 location, effective July 7th, 2007." They also have a substantial printing lab elsewhere in Amsterdam, as well as a shop selling all manner of photographic materials, both of which will continue. So now I have lost the place where I would have my medium format films developed. Unless I find another lab in the Netherlands that can do it for me, all my MF gear will be on the block here next Friday :-( And no, doing my own development is not an option. If I cannot find someone to do my souping, then that's it for film and me.
