I think I'm always in a twisted mood. B^} That insect was part of a brood of millions that emerged this summer in the midwest, after developing and hibernating in the ground. They come out every 17 years and live only about two weeks, I think. The picture was taken near Chicago, where there was a noticeable drone from their mating buzz, and where the ground was littered with their carcasses. I live in Milwaukee, 90 miles north, and we have only the usual annual cicadas that are larger, and not as pretty.
