In either case by experimenting with polaroids (pre digital) we determined that the criteria to achieve the effect we were looking for came down to the angle and the height of the glass when dropped. We definitely did not throw it. ;~) Too high a drop threw water outside of our frame of view. Too low a drop was simply unimpressive. Once we had the height figured out it became a matter of fine tuning the audio trigger. Not too soon or the glass hovered above the water. Not too late or we missed the flash.
