I have several Leica filters. The E43 marked IR is almost black. I have another in E39 that seems to be less dense. It is not marked IR but is very similar. This information was copied from an old B+W filter instruction brochure. ============================================================= B+W Filter Color Suggested Uses Number 010 UVa UV / Haze for daylight color film. and black and white film 021 Light yellow All outdoor b&w photography. (Landscape with clouds and low sun ) 022 Medium yellow Landscape with clouds and high sun. Pictures with sunshine and deep shadows. 023 Dark yellow Increased effect with landscape, clouds and high sun. 040 Yellow-orange For exaggerated light effects. To give 041 Orange-yellow atmosphere of storm with cloud landscape. 060 Yellow-green General photography of all types in daylight. 061 Green All daylight photography. Photography by artificial light to increase true tone values of green and red ( still life ). 080 Blue Exposure by artificial light. 090 Light red For penetrating haze in long distance photography ( clouds in mountain landscapes ) 091 Dark red Same effect as light red but with increased effect ( moonlight effect ). 092 Infra red For infra red film material. 093 Black For infra red film material. 101 Neutral gray Light reducing filter. 102 Neutral gray Light reducing filter 103 Neutral gray Light reducing filter.
