I was not referring to the M8.... Simply putting anything in front of a lens
cuts down on the quality of the lens itself.
And this was precisely what Erwin was stating.

Frank,
Without the filters, image quality is actually worst than without the
filters. The CCD is not designed to work in visible light without a
near IR suppression of some sort
