I suspect though, that Microsoft might be aiming this at casual photographers, the digital P&S home users. That is after all the bulk of the market. I absolutely agree that HD seems very unlikely to appeal to the LUG end of the photographer spectrum. However, as a parallel, have you noted that mp3 is now reintegrated into their media player? I think that there is a considerable consumer resistance out there to proprietary formats or DRM. Especially if the customers can avoid paying for something!
