In the book about Meyer Lansky "Little Man" its discused that "A Gambler" Is not someone sitting at the tables. A Gambler is someone who sets up the game. Meyer Lansky was a Gambler. No way was he going to sit at some table. The people at the tables are not the gamblers. They're the suckers. Meyer Lansky ran a fair game but made sure the odds were in his favor.
