Or is it my eyes > and judgment?<<< Hi Larry, One thing I've discovered about viewing on screen and looking at prints? If one really wants to see major quality in ones efforts....... show prints just as we did for years. Yes on screen they can look smashing! But! >From experince and purely by accident! A recent event. I had an appointment to show material to a new art director. The usual manner these days, put DVD into computer, show pictures just as every other shooter who's work he looked at, always on the screen!! Not 12'' screens, but biggies. Plus what was sent to him via internet........... always on a screen! Rarely if ever a print of the olden days! So he put my DVD in his machine and up they came Leica looking very nice big and breathe sucking beautiful! However it's still a screen and yes Leica glass looks beautiful on a nice big screen! However, so do Canon images and Nikon and many other versions. Immpressed by the "crispness," let's say "Leica look" he liked what he saw, but wasn't completely blown away. So he had a look at another shooters' CD images shot with Canon, OOPS!!!!!!!! Like wow they also looked pretty damn good! Now was the moment for decision on which photog he was going to hire...... For those of you who think art directors and photo editors care about what camera you use............. SURPRISE!!!! They don't care if you use a toilet bowl as long as you have the pictures they want! And if you give them a big line about Leica glass along with all the other Leica BS about best etc............... you are wasting their time and you'll quickly find yourself out the door! Sans assignment! Right at that moment I offered: "I know you look at a screen all day and thought you might like to see a few prints for a change." Handing him some 13X19's from scanned film and the 20D digital using Leica glass. An amazing re-action..... he called in several editors and design people to "look at some real photographs!" They were passing these "paper prints" back and forth like they'd never seen anything like it before.:-) After looking at screens all day long, take a print enlargement in hand and enjoy the difference sometime, it's very pleasant to hold a print at proper viewing distance to eye & create a feel good about the photograph. And see the "quality of the glass!" A print in hand can mean an assignment to shoot! Sometimes! :-) Now I never go without prints, a few, when I'm asked to present my photography. Guess who got the shoot? ;-) ted tedgrantphoto.com tedgrant@shaw.ca
