To me it's "keereematee" and "keereebatee". Why it should offend anyone how other people pronounce the name of their country in a different language is beyond me. I'm firmly in the "Bombay" and "Peking" camp. Nobody insists that English speakers say "Roma", "Paree", "Munchen", "Moskva" or "Espanya" unless they are talking in the language of the country. It is a matter of no importance to me that my home nation is habitually called "Wales" instead of "Cymru". Similarly you don't get many indignant letters to the newspapers in outrage at the French use of "Londres" or "Ecosse". Since I am highly unlikely to attempt to ask directions of a Kiribatian then I'll happily use the phonetic pronunciation so that when I mention it, people can look at an atlas and say "oh yeah, that island there". It's Friday and I need to let off steam. Neil This message is intended only for the use of the person(s) to whom it is addressed. It may contain information which is privileged and confidential.
