Yes, the SLR's are hefty but those tiny little memory cards that take the 
place of hundreds of rolls of film and aren't hurt by x-rays are 
wonderful.  The size and weight of the Canon's is another reason I'm happy 
with my M8 ;-)

Tell her not to be afraid.  It's the best thing I've ever done.  No more 
pain in my knees and I can do anything I could before I wore out my 
knees.  Just find a doctor who specializes in hip replacements and talk to 
his patients.  Do the pre and post-operation physical therapy 
religiously.  Two months after I had both knees replaced, I was climbing 
mountains in Guatemala.
