I think i agree with Mark. The oft used 'saloon' metaphor suggests a  
casual, open, dynamic social gathering place. The more we attempt to  
clamp down on precisely how we should comport in this place the more  
we become like other lists.

In my opinion this list has special qualities. Don't tinker with  
something that works this well. Sure, attempt to change the subject  
head when you change the subject. Go off list when appropriate to do  
so. However, I believe that there's also something about the 'on  
list' expressions of gratitude and appreciation which also temper  
this group and allow us to believe in warmth and generosity of spirit  
that we have witnessed on more than one occasion. So take care when  
making changes to something working so very well.
