I was there as a Visiting Professor at the Univ. of Wales - Bangor. The head of the Ocean Science school, John Simpson, was my next door neighbor. We lived on Mywent Menai, a one block long road next to the cemetery. Very quiet. Of course you are right about the roads. My mind slipped a gear. But I could never drive to Manchester in 1.5 hours in my 1980 SEAT. The engine was only the size of the one in my lawnmower. At the time I was into video photography and carried a camcorder instead of a Leica. The problem with video is that no one will sit through a 2 hour presentation on You Tube and that precious few guests will do so in the comfort of your living room even if you ply them with drinks. I did incorporate the experiences of a naive midwesterner to the complexities of living in Wales in a short book, "The Grass is always Grayer Next to the Slate Mine: 45 Letters from Wales" which was published in installments in our local newspaper. It received wide acclaim, mostly from my children. I would be happy to send a PDF file to anyone who wants one. Pictures too. Larry Z
