For many years high school through say age 30 I would buy a wind-up Timex 
for $10. They would last  2 years, die and end up in a wastebasket. However 
one year I grabbed one of my Grand Dad's aforementioned "Ostrander's"  
Unbeknownst to me the watch ran 5 minutes fast every hour.  One of the gals 
in my college class commented  :
"Jon, the fastest thing about you is your watch"
 I was really naive in college...
