Subject: [Leica] Any Interest in a 2006 LUG Yearbook, or The Miracle of Micropublishing
From: jshul at comcast.net (Jim Shulman)

Until fairly recently, any somewhat good-looking book required several
things:
Content
A professional graphic designer
A bag of money for color separations, proofing, and printing.
Delays from the printer.
A significant pre-order.

Almost all that's changed, thanks to digital printing and the
micropublishing revolution. With free software it's now fairly easy to
create a decent-looking color book, hardcover or paperback, which can be
ordered one copy at a time.

Which brings me to the point: a LUG 2006 Yearbook
I'd be happy to spearhead a LUG yearbook, which I would assemble and made
available to anyone who wants to purchase a copy.

What I'd need are submissions. If we have thirty LUG folks who submit
images to me by 12/31/06, then I'll go ahead and put a book together.

Since the book can be well over 100 pages, if desired, the more the merrier.

Parameters:
MINIMUM image file size of one meg. Remember, this is print and not the web.
Larger is fine. If you have something truly humongo, please post it to a
site where I can download the file. Tina did this for me a few weeks
ago--much thanks again!
Full-page images use the dimension of 8.5" high x 10" wide (landscape). For
other dimension images, there will be space around the picture.
Please make all color corrections, contrast adjustments, and edits yourself.
I'll just take the files and paste them into the templates.
Maximum of two submissions per LUGger.
Include any technical details, including descriptions.
If you wish, feel free to include a portrait of the photographer <g>.
PLEASE SEND ALL INFO TO ME OFFLINE, jshul@comcast.net, IN ONE E-MAIL!!!

I'm sure we'd love an introductory essay from the saloonkeeper.

The book, of course, will note that all copyrights are the property of
individual photographers.

All best,
