Subject: [Leica] Vuescan and Nikon ED 5000 woes again

G'day all,

well once again, I am incredibly frustrated by my ability (or lack
more accurately) to scan films with my really quite expensive Nikon
ED 5000 "super coolscan". I have not touched it for about 9 months
and I'm remembering why. Last time I tried to get on top of it by
buying "VueScan", and I have just updated to the latest version BUT
good as it may be I am stumped by the first negative file I put in.

Problem one: When I put the film in the scanner, it advances but not
far enough, so that the preview includes too much blank air and
therefore the scan is incomplete. With the Nikon software I could
manually adjust the starting position for the preview, but I cannot
find it in VueScan.

My litany of other problems are mainly to do with what settings to
use to get a really high quality scan, but we can come to those if I
could align the negative with the preview.

Cheers and TIA

Alastair
