Think of it as a K25 camera plus a Tri-X camera plus a Provia 400F camera plus a polaroid back plus a long-roll back. Several months and US$1900 later it was back as good as new, but was I insane to spend that much to _repair_ a 280mm lens, let alone one without a big maximum aperture, AF, IS or auto-composition? The 280 f/4 APO delivers the image quality I want in my pictures, image quality I haven't seen from any other comparable lens. I can make good pictures with other lenses but I like my pictures more when the 280 APO makes 'em. Is the difference in image quality worth the nearly obscene amount of money it costs, particularly for a weekend warrior? That's for me and SWMBO to decide. Hint: it's not something we fight about.
