A "true" artist? No idea.

We could say that:
anyone who makes art = artist
but then
do we agree that what s/he makes = art?

I know musicians who who earn their living from their music
and some who don't
I know poets who earn their living from their poetry
and some who don't
I know painters who earn their living from their paintings
and some who don't
I know sculptors who earn their living from their sulpture
and some who don't
I know photographers who earn their living from their photographs
and some who don't

I don't judge their art by annual sales.
