There's no law that says you have to fill a memory card,
and if you have only one, then the one-basket rule doesn't apply. By 
definition if you have only one memory card, then all of your images are on 
it until you upload them.

I have 4 2-GB cards that I use in rotation.
Most of the time I pull them out and upload them when they are 15% full, but 
every now and then I'm really glad I have the whole 2GB.

(And they're fast SD cards, which means that if I ever get an M8, they'll be 
usable there...)

There are some software issues with cards bigger than 2GB on many cameras. 
And 2GB is currently the sweet-spot in price. Cost per GB is lowest on that 
size card.
