Hi Peter,

The best thing you could do is to let go of the notion of any  
photographic medium having "forgiveness."
I don't believe that any photo material forgives. Over many decades  
I've found that the science of photography  demands understanding if  
you expect solid technical results.

Each film or chip has specific characteristics which must be  
understood; and used to advantage. The fact that some color negative  
film has a greater dynamic range than some transparency film, or a  
specific sensor chip/camera combination simply means that you must  
know how to exploit those characteristics, for what ever tool you  
have in your hands, with consideration to your technical objectives.  
Old guidelines such as: expose for the highlights and process for the  
shadows apply very well to digital photography.

Once we've got the science understood; then of course the discussion  
opens up to aesthetics and content.
