Gene,
Yes on an M7.
No on an M8. Want to bet a six pack on it ;-)
The universal wide  finder does not compensate for the "crop factor". There 
is no interface with the camera except for a shoe mount.
The internal finder does compensate, of course.

Looking at the dial on the new finder, it looks like you set the focal 
lenght for the actual focal length for the camera.  And that
is what I also got reading the DPreviw artical and the lit from Leica on 
their site.
