You're a victim of Bauhaus semiotics. There are normally four links below
each photograph. At the left are the "First" and "Previous" links; at the
right are the "Next" and "Last" links. When you are looking at the
next-to-last image, the "Next" link vanishes, because the "Last" link will
take you there (why waste electrons producing a duplicate link). Similarly,
when you are looking at the second image in an album, the "Previous" link
will not be there, because the "First" link will take you to
it.
