then the one is left left is something so
extraodinary that I can't believe I took it, something
I can't imagine, or even remember, 'seeing'
beforehand. And that's kind of unnerving- the
implication that you have to 'lose it' to 'get it', so
to speak.

Sunday morning, I was sitting on the bench just outside the Parish Hall,
and
folks were gathered in conversation. I been thinking about how few people
shots I've done lately, and was wondering if I was losing it, clinging to
the
relative safety of flowers and still life.

Just in front of me, a woman with a sleepy baby, so I lift the camera to
get
the "cute" shot.

He raised his head, and looked at me right in the eye so intently, that I
just knew this wasn't gonna be a "kid shot." I pushed the button, and since
I
was using the Pentax, I wasn't positive I had the moment. So I chimped
and
immediately knew I had a pretty good picture. I even knew right away
that
it needed a slight crop.

You never know when a picture will leap in front of your camera; sometimes
it takes a while, but you gotta be ready.
