The front elemnt was briefly submerged (a few seconds) and water seeped in behind the first group. As long as I kept the lens warm it was fine but once the lens cooled to room temperature I got condensation within the lens. It went to Nikon USA for drying. The 400mm f/6.8 can be cleaned and dried in the field with no more tools than a couple of screwdrivers.
