Like B.D. I too find it curious that Leica never made an effort to
put any weather
sealing in the M-series, especially with the introduction of
electronics.

But like Ted says, the lack of it doesn't seem to stop the cameras
from working
under all sorts of conditions.

Personally I wish they had some level of protection and I sure as
heck hope
that they put some sealing in the M8!

I think that Canon really started to push the concept of weather
sealing as standard
equipment on a pro-level camera in the 90's with the EOS series (1n,
Eos 3, 1-v etc.).
My 1-v is sealed and I've shot in the very dusty desert with it
without a hitch.

The only camera I can think of from the 1980's that has some amount
of sealing is
the Nikon F3 Pro (or Press). This was a limited run of the F3 with
sealing around
the Titanium prism block and other major entry points. I came across
a fairly clean
example of one of these a few months ago and picked it up for a song.
Nice camera
that F3, but I'm not blown away by the Nikon glass, although I have
developed a soft
spot for the single coated Nikkor-P 2.5/105...

I may be wrong, but I think the F4 had some sealing and of course so
did the F5,
but by now we are talking 1990's.
