Wow, B.D. said "If you are not inspired by this book, sell your camera."
What a mad genius. A book of mere ~180 pages with may be 150 photographs
cannot possibly present the vision of one of the most passionate
photographers in the 20th century. Smith selected 2000 photos from the
17,000 that he took and made about 200 prints to represent the whole. The
photographs in this book are mere fragmented visions of an epic project
that is never published the way it was meant to be. The biggest problem
with this book and the Minamata book is the quality of the reproduction
does not do the photographs justice. The book "Let Truth Be The Prejudice"
has much better reproduction and should be bought for that reason alone.
The text gives a glimpse into the history of this project with succinct
writing and excerpts of some of Smith's writing. Highly recommended.
