I don't think it was the autofocus itself that was a problem, but the manual explaining it. In the end, I just lock the center sensor and always use it. I point focus/lock focus (pushing halfway down on the shutter) and then compose. It's almost exactly like using a rangefinder. I suspect that Nikon's multiple sensor technique is not up to the standards of Canon and others, so I just bypass the multiple sensors and just use the one. So try locking the active sensor to the center one. Best, Daniel
