During my obligatory military stint, I spent a winter in Ft.
Churchill. Through some miscalculation the town was built on the
migration route of polar bears from their summer to winter feeding
grounds. Of course once the bears discovered the 24/7 cafeteria of
the town's garbage dump, they cancelled their travel plans and took
up permanent residence. They were particularly partial to almost
empty jam and jelly jars, wiping them dishwasher clean with their
long tongues. If Helen's photographic wanderings take her that way
she will get plenty of polar bear pictures. Tell her to be sure to
carry a box of Kleenex to wipe the blueberry jam stains off the polar
bears snouts.
